What should I check after my loan settles?

Four quick things. First, confirm the old loan is closed. Your old lender should confirm it in writing once the payout clears. Second, check your first repayment date and amount with the new lender so nothing bounces.

Third, cancel any automatic payments you personally set up to the old lender. Direct debits the old lender controls stop on their side, but payments you created in your own banking don't. Fourth, if your car insurance policy notes an interested party, update it to the new lender; most lenders require the car to stay insured.

That's the whole checklist. After that, the loan just runs, and every on-time repayment builds positive history on your credit file.
